About
Knowle DGE Academy is a vibrant and aspirational learning community based in Knowle West Bristol for young people from KS1 right through to KS5. There are currently 156 pupils on roll.
Knowle DGE is a specialist Academy for young people with additional needs principally in the areas of Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Speech Language and Communication (SLCN) and Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) at the communicative, higher -operating end of the spectrum. All young people attending Knowle DGE have an official statement of SEN (Special Educational Needs) or EHCP (Education and Health Care Plan).
At Knowle DGE we promote two curriculums equally:
•The National Curriculum - through an enriched, personalised approach we emphasise the needs, talents and ambitions of the individual whilst broadening horizons with plenty of opportunities to take learning beyond the classroom. Over time, and from their starting points on arrival at Knowle DGE, the majority of young people make progress in line with or better than national expectations across a range of academic and vocational subjects. Our staff are driven and successful educators and this shows in our OFSTED reports which have consistently rated Knowle DGE as a Good / Outstanding Academy.
Our Ethos supports this side of the Knowle DGE curriculum:
“All Equal, All Different, All Achieving Together”
•Learning about ourselves and how we can successfully fit into the broader contexts of the Academy, family, community, nation and the world at large as we learn moral values and how to meet our own needs in balance with the needs of those around us. This is exemplified by the work we do with those young adults leaving our provision and moving on to further study or into the world of apprenticeship and work. Our programme of career guidance, vocational study and work experience have combined to support OFSTED’s grading of our Sixth Form as an Outstanding provision.
Our Values as an Academy support this strand of how we learn:
“Belief, Respect, Responsibility”
