Young Carers

A young carer is a child under 18 who regularly helps to look after a family member or friend who is disabled, ill has a mental condition or additional problem.

At Knowle- DGE Academy we are aware that some of our pupils are young carers and that they may need additional support to maximise their potential. Therefore, we currently provide the following service and support for young carers:

• Weekly lunchtime support group
• Daily 1:1 check-in service during break times
• Ability to use the school phone at break or lunch times on request
• Lunchtime homework support on request
• A whole school approach in supporting young carers
• All staff are aware of how they can support young carers
